Hugh Manson represented the Club at the “Champion of Champions” Competition at Hamptworth on Saturday 30th March i.e. as our AC Club Champion,.
AC players have barely been able to play this season at Eynsham, so were still a bit rusty, and also not so conversant with the fast lawns and tight hoops of Hamptworth. So it is particularly pleasing to see Hugh competing well.
He lost in the first round to the eventual runner-up, and ended the day with 2 wins and 2 losses; very respectable in such a strong field. Well done Hugh!
Neil represented the Club at GC on Sunday 31st March at Hamptworth in the "Champion of Champions" Competition i.e. made up of the players who won their internal club competitions.
Hamptworth have very fast lawns (I have played there), and they take some getting used to. Neil tells me that his accuracy was much improved once he got used to the pace of the lawns. You don't need to put the force behind the ball, which as we have all experienced, is what often makes your shot go awry.
Neil played 6 games, winning 2 and losing 4.
I can see from the results that he lost the first 3 games, but won 2 from 3 of the next 3 games, which supports the idea that the courts take some getting used to. Very good effort for the first time our club has entered this competition, to my knowledge.
