The sky this April! 2 Apr 2023 What to look out for in the night sky from Eynsham.

The Night Sky in April!

This is not intended to be comprehensive - it is a quick guide to help you find a few things in the night sky without any equipment - just your eyes.

All of these are very bright and easy to find when walking around the village.

The planets - Mars, Venus and Mercury can be seen this month. Venus and Mars are looking impressive in the sky. All these planets can be seen easily at sunset as they appear to be the first stars. Mercury is well placed. Saturn is now a morning object very low at sunrise in the east - it will be hard to see.

The full Moon is on the 6th.

There are no well placed International Space Station passes this month.

Look out for the Lyrid Meteor Shower on the 22nd - with a description of how to see them.

I have made the following charts to help you find: -

  • 2nd Moon in Leo
  • 5th Venus and Mercury
  • 15th Mars and Venus
  • 22ns Planets at sunset
  • 22nd Moon, Venus and S
  • 22nd Lyrid Meteor shower
  • 25th Moon and Mars
  • Phases of the Moon
