Green TEA promotes “sustainable foods” that are better for environment and us, as we eat in balance with nature. 40% of the household carbon emissions in the UK come from food – higher than those of either energy or transport. This is an exciting area where any one of us could make a difference!
A large amount of what we regard as ordinary every day food is flown halfway round the world, with food waste costing the average family £700 per year. Green TEA promotes local seasonal food and reducing waste. In Eynsham, we are encouraging local produce, growing food in public spaces for everyone to enjoy, and embracing nature’s wisdom in our design (including food forest garden, permaculture, and wild edibles).
Production of livestock uses 1/3 of the world’s fresh water, and meat is responsible for 57% of the greenhouse gas emissions in food. Sir David Attenborough shared in his recent book that “transition to a largely plant-based existence is the second great social change” that we can make along with removing fossil fuels. GreenTEA food organises public events with delicious plant-based dishes for free tasting, and shares the recipes here online.
