Try a heritage trail past the Fishponds, or stretch your legs on Wharf stream way, including Eynsham Lock. Take in Eynsham Mill via the Millennium Wood, or a 6-mile circuit via Church Hanborough. To the south lie the 4-mile Thames Path Circular to Pinkhill Lock and an 8-mile circuit via Godstow. Places to visit Bridewell Gardens near Wilcote are a therapeutic mental health setting: summer visitors and year-round supporters or volunteers welcome. Farmoor Reservoir, ‘a unique habitat for wildlife and a dream destination for anglers and sailors’, has a wheelchair-accessible circuit. North Leigh Roman Villa on the banks of the Evenlode (a steep trek!) is open all year, with access to the mosaic house on summer open days. Oxford Bus Museum in Long Hanborough offers ‘a fun day out for all the family’ (£) including an historic cycle collection. Free heritage rides on summer Sundays. Oxfordshire County Museum in central Woodstock has a wealth of permanent collections, special exhibitions, children’s activities / events. The Soldiers of Oxfordshire Museum (£) is on the same site. The Devil’s Quoits are an ancient stone circle tucked away just south of Stanton Harcourt: much-restored but remarkably atmospheric.
