There is something new happening in the Library!
I dropped in and spoke with the manager, Jane Bruder. She told me all about the new Library Social activity that has started up. This began in late January 2026.
It runs every other Thursday from 2pm -3:30pm and is for older members of the community. If you would like to see what it is all about then do call in. There will be a very warm welcome awaiting you. Jane is the main person who oversees the library social. Alongside Jane there are 2 x library staff and 1 x volunteer.
Refreshments are provided (at no cost) and they have board games, card games and also craft activities. It is a lovely space to have a social gathering and get together to meet friends and always the opportunity to make new ones, especially if you are new to the village.
The library is not a huge space, yet it is cosy and welcoming and they can cater for 10-12 people. They often attract 8-10 people on a regular basis. Goes to show how popular this is :-)
One of the ladies who attends had this to say about it: "Eynsham folk are really caring, since my husband died people have been so kind and the OAP clubs are great. I like going to the library and playing scrabble and dominoes. We are a good group who go there and I have made many friends. The staff at the library are very good and we have nice drinks, biscuits and sweets. I am so happy with everything (including the Car Scheme)." Another visitor said she only wishes it lasted longer.
N.B. The last date for Eynsham Library Social before the summer break is Thursday 16th July. Restarting every other Thursday from 3rd September.
These sessions are made possible by the generous financial support of the Helen Hamlyn Hub Eynsham.

During the summer holidays the library holds a 'Summer Reading Challenge' for the children. Every year there is a different theme and this years theme is MUSIC. So, if you have little ones that would enjoy this do drop in.
Also if you struggle with IT, be it on your phone, laptop or iPad and would like some help in certain areas, there is now a volunteer digital helper available, providing bookable 30 minute sessions on Thursdays 2pm - 4pm, so please pop into the library to book your session or give them a call on 01865 815147. These sessions are subject to availability and are not running in August.
This service is open to all ages and let's face it, we could all do with a little help sometimes navigating our technical devices.
As we get older it is important to embrace changes within technology and I feel this will be a very useful and helpful service for all. So no matter what your age, if you need a little help or advice, tips even, it is worth booking a session.
Do pop in sometime, all are welcome.
