SST Technology and sister company Lentus Composites have pooled their machining and metal additive capabilities to create a first class machine shop within the Polar Group. Kevin Norman has joined the business as Machine Shop Director to lead the facility.
This machine shop will serve the requirements of both businesses. With a full 5 Axis CNC machining and a turnkey capability certified to ISO9001 and AS9100, the machine shop specialises in machining some of the most challenging materials such as high Nickel and Titanium alloys and composite materials and regularly deals with the machining of castings and in-house manufactured additive layer components.
It has full 5 axis capability plus bar fed lathes which helps support lights out running. The largest of the milling machines has a bed of 3.5m x 0.8m meaning it’s possible to machine larger structures including large fabricated assemblies which need post machining operations.
To complement the machining operation SST has invested a fully automated DEA CMM, Aberlink measurement equipment and Romer Arm 3D laser scanning to ensure we can accurately check all machined components to incredibly tight tolerances during the prototype phase prior to establishing a more appropriate gauging method as the volumes increase.
SST can offer machining as part of the larger fabricated assembly or alternatively offer discrete component level machining as required.
