If you are 60years + and are a resident in Eynsham or the surrounding villages you can attend ‘The Monday Club’. It is based at Eynsham Village Hall in Back Lane to the rear of Bartholomew School.
If you have difficulty in getting to and from here Eynsham Good Neighbours could possibly help, or perhaps you have a friend or neighbour who could drop you off or attend with you? It is on every Monday 10:00am – 2:30pm (except Bank Holidays).
I called in on Monday 26th January and had a chat with the coordinator Amanda Reading. She was very friendly and helpful in letting me know what goes on.
Firstly on arrival, everyone gets a cup of tea/coffee. Then they do some Zumba exercises. Don’t worry these are done whilst sitting in your chair. After which games are played like scrabble, dominoes etc. There is something for everyone.
If playing games isn’t your thing, it’s just a great place to meet up and have a good chat and make a new friend or two. They have a 2x course lunch. This is provided by one of the local pubs in Eynsham. The Jolly Sportsman (Lombard Street). In the afternoon entertainment is provided, this could be Bingo or a singer or a talk. Do you have some spare time and would like to talk about something? e.g. gardening, any unusual hobbies etc, they would love to hear from you.
On average they have 28 members and can cater for up to 32. The cost is £10 per person which includes a 2 x course lunch. £5 if you don’t have the lunch.
The Monday club has been running for 35 years approximately and is a lifeline to some of the people who attend. It would be a shame to lose such a valuable resource.
To keep this up and running they need help, your help. They have between 5 & 10 volunteers. 5x being main ones but need more. Can you spare a couple of hours? Volunteers are always needed and it is so rewarding to know you are helping others.
They also desperately require a treasurer. Someone to look after the money aspect. Could this be you? Or are you someone who is good coming up with fundraising ideas? These are needed also to keep the Monday Club up and running.
So, get in touch for an informal chat or pop in on a Monday morning. Amanda is so friendly and welcoming and would love to have a chat with you. You can never have enough volunteers. They are the core and backbone to making places like the Monday Club a lovely place to attend.
Amanda can be contacted on 07941500431
