Driving a neighbour to a health care appointment? Eynsham Car Scheme offers 10 tips to help keep everyone safe:
Before the drive
- Check that no-one in your household or your passenger’s household has signs of the virus -new continuous cough, high temperature, loss of sense of taste and smell. If yes call NHS 111 and do not make the journey.
- Do wash your hands and ensure your car is clean – open the windows and wipe down all likely touch points for you and your passenger. Wash your hands again.
Getting together
- Ensure you are both wearing a mask – disposable masks are better – you can then both use new ones for the return journey.
- Ask your passenger to open the (sanitised) door and sit in the back of the car behind the passenger seat. If your passenger needs help to get into/out of the car, it is better that you are wearing disposable gloves.
- Do not re-circulate air in the car – keep the driver window and rear window behind front passenger seat open a few inches.
At the appointment
- Don’t accompany your passenger into a clinical site.
Going home
- We leave the site or park conveniently and take mobile phones so the passenger or clinic can ring to say they are ready.
- Do have a bag to dispose of used masks and use fresh ones for the return.
- Wash your hands and sanitise the touch points in the car after your journey.
- Wash your hands again.
