Eynsham Young Cricketers 2021 15 Sep 2021 A report on junior cricket success at Eynsham CC

The early part of the summer was spent tiptoeing through a recovery from the pandemic.  Once we got going, it seemed to rain every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday roughly fifteen minutes before the start of play!  We persevered, and Eynsham was able to compete at Under 15, U13 and U11 age groups for the first time in many years.

The U11s joined the Super 8s league with Freddie McGibbon and Jamie Rundle leading the way, the team went unbeaten throughout the summer playing eight games and winning all eight. Theo Wright, Lucas Zumbhal, Arthur Mcormick and Feddy Dilger also put in many strong performances and look ready to make the transition to hardball cricket having played a few friendly games already this year.

The U11s started the season with a mix of hardened veterans (with 1 season of cricket behind them) to complete beginners who were trying the sport for the first time, they've gone from strength to strength in every game, and were very proud to win their league unbeaten.

More important than the results though, has been the development of a love of the game - big smiles on faces, and supporting each other both on and off the pitch.  Skills have improved week on week, with coaching from Patrick and the Dynamos.  A number of the squad are interested in going through the Oxfordshire winter training sessions.  We're all looking forward to next season already!

The U13s were the surprise team of the year. Led by Gabe Godsall, he took them to within just one victory of winning the league and with some impressive scalps along the way.  Seth Blank has been a strong newcomer, as was Hana Arnold for her bowling, Unax Pradera for his fielding, and Olly Lewis, James Martin and Daniel Watson, plus the U11s playing up and always holding their own.

With only a few year 10’s to mention, the U15s were mostly a year younger than the opposition which bodes well for 2022. Notable performances from George King and Jake Smitten has seen them, together with Freddie Arnold, cement places in the adult men’s cricket teams, and we look forward to many more players doing the same in the seasons to come.

Thanks must go to the many parent helpers, especially Jennie and Scott McGibbon, Jo Godsall and Didi Blank. We are planning indoor nets at Bartholomew in the winter and a cricket camp in Easter to get us started so please contact the club if you would like more information for younger players or if you would like to help.

See you next year!
