Eynsham Women reach cricket final 29 Apr 2019 Eynsham women reach the final of Oxfordshire’s Indoor League Division 2 in their first year playing.

Eynsham women’s cricket team have just completed their first season of indoor cricket over the winter months.  The ladies have done incredibly well culminating with an appearance in the final of Oxfordshire’s Indoor League Division 2 playing Thame Ladies.

Following on from their first season playing outdoor cricket in that glorious summer of 2018 this inexperienced team decided to practice indoors over the autumn and winter months. During the autumn the ladies were asked to join an indoor league which lead to the knockout stages and eventually the final, a fantastic achievement.

Despite being new to cricket Eynsham fielded a strong team and having beaten Thame in an earlier game were quietly confident.  Thame came to the final better prepared than previously, with tactics better suited to the indoor game and with a couple of “experienced” indoor players not seen in the previous game.  Unfortunately, our ladies lost in a very close, hard fought but friendly game.

Both formats of the lady’s game, indoors and out is softball cricket.  The game is played with a softer ball than used in the men’s/women’s summer game seen on tele, hence the name softball cricket.  So, if you’re interested in trying the game come along, you’ll meet a great bunch of ladies and be made most welcome at the club.  Contact details are on the club web site.

The photographs show the ladies appearing in the final together with some taken outside at the cricket ground in April this year.  These photographs were taken seven days apart showing the vagaries of British weather, 17c temperature difference in the week leading to the Easter bank holiday Easter weekend, and the enthusiasm the ladies have for the game.
