More Night-time A40 Surveys 13 Jun 2018 In case you haven't spotted the signs ...

The A40 Bus Lane and Eynsham P&R scheme is undertaking additional night-time carriageway condition surveys and day-time trial pits from next Monday. A guide for local residents is available to download below.

Dates, times and duration and what is to be done:

  • From 18/6 (next Monday night);
  • One week of night-time (10pm – 6am) carriageway condition surveys, followed by
  • Up to two weeks of day-time further trial pits on verges and footways, exact duration TBC;
  • Advance warning signs have been installed on A40 to forewarn road users of the works.

Is traffic / access / egress affected?

  • The initial night-time carriageway condition surveys will be carried out with temporary traffic lights;
  • The subsequent trial pits are to be undertaken away from the carriageway and therefore should not materially impact on the traffic flow of the main A40 route.
  • I do not foresee any frontages being directly affected and thus access and egress should not be a problem. However, the works contractor will have sufficient staff on site to supervise the works and will contact the affected frontages, if there are any, ahead of the works commencing to ensure any disturbance is minimized.

Why are we doing more surveys?

  • The initial carriageway condition surveys had revealed a gap in the surveyed data, and hence we are now going out to capture this additional information;
  • Similarly with the trial pits.

Where are you doing the surveys / trial pits?

  • The carriageway condition survey is to be undertaken on the A40 from approximately 400m west of Cuckoo Lane to approximately 1km before the Duke’s Cut Bridge;
  • The number of trial pits are still being finalized but with a minimum number of around 10x, possibly up to 30x more (i.e. 40 in total); the final number will be determined later on this week and communicated on the scheme’s website.
