Carnival Committee News

Carnival King for a day? 18 Feb 2017 Now in its 71st year, Eynsham Carnival is for the first time ever calling for boys who’d like to be Carnival King or attendant

Traditionally Eynsham has a Carnival Queen and attendants who lead the parade and give out the prizes for the shirt race, floats and fancy dress.

In a break with tradition the organising committee wondered if Eynsham needed a Carnival King and male attendants as well. It proved a hot topic online so the children at Eynsham primary were consulted and the response was clear: let boys have a go too! Therefore this year boys are invited to apply too and make history in the process as the Carnival is brought hurtling into the 21st century.

The Carnival royalty, King and/or Queen and male or female attendants, will be chosen at the popular Eynsham Carnival Family Disco held at Eynsham Village Hall at 6.30pm on 18th March. Candidates are selected by independent judges, and there is no need to parade to enter the competition

There are 3 categories for candidates: male or female attendants aged 6-9 and 10-14, King or Queen aged 14+.

No need to apply in advance, just turn up on the day. Entry is £1 per person. Free entry for Royalty candidates. 6.30-9pm with a licensed bar.
