The Night Sky in November 1 Nov 2025 What to look out for in the night sky from Eynsham

This is not intended to be comprehensive – it is a quick guide to help you find a few things in the night sky without any equipment – just your eyes. All of these are very bright and easy to find when walking around the village.

The Planets This Month

  • Venus – rises around 5:23am (East) on 1 November; by end of month rises around 7:30am in the East.
  • Jupiter – rises around 9:00pm (East) on 1 November and remains visible through the night.
  • Saturn – already above the horizon in the Southeast at sunrise (5:30pm) at the start of the month; by month’s end it rises around 5:00pm (Southeast) and is high in the evening sky.

Meteor Showers

  • Taurids Meteor Shower (Northern & Southern)

 Southern branch peaks around 5Nov; Northern branch around 12Nov.. Expected rate: approximately 5 meteors per hour under dark skies. Moon impact: The Southern Taurids coincide with the full Moon on 5Nov, so moonlight will wash out many faint meteors.

  •  Leonids Meteor Shower

Active through November, peaking 17 Nov. Expected rate: up to about 15 meteors per hour under ideal conditions. Moon impact: Minimal, as the New Moon is on 20 Nov, providing dark skies around the peak.
