Your Questions Answered 24 May 2024 Your most frequently asked questions about using Eynsham Car Scheme, with answers below. Call 07469 764174 if you have more :-)

Who is eligible to use the service? Anyone who is resident in Eynsham.

Is it just for NHS appointments? No. We can cover private hospitals, NHS and private dental appointments. We go to opticians, chiropodists, physiotherapists and more. Just ask if you are unsure.

What do you charge? We ask for donations, if possible, to help cover our costs. We suggest £10 for Oxford, £6 for Witney and £3 for Eynsham. But what you put in the envelope is up to you. We don’t want anyone to feel lack of money stops them using our service. And some people who can afford it make further generous donations.

Can you guarantee I will get a driver? We fail on very few occasions each year. If you give us enough notice (see below) you can be confident that your booking will be confirmed.

What do you ask me when I ring? We need your name, address and phone number and the date and time of your appointment. We will also need to know if we need to take a wheelchair or walking frame, and if anyone is going with you, and whether you have a disabled parking badge. If you have an idea how long the appointment will take that can be helpful.

If I have to leave a message how much detail do you need? Name, address and date and time of the appointment are necessary. We will probably need to ring you back for the other information- unless you are one of our regulars and we have that information already.

Can a friend or family member come with me? Yes. We encourage this particularly if you need help getting to the venue, though if you need the driver to help, do tell us that when you book.

How much notice do I need to give you when I ring? Ideally, we like to have at least 5 working days so there is plenty of time to do a driver search. If you have suddenly been given a short notice request, we can’t do the same day. You are welcome to try if it is the next day, but the coordinator would need to be available to answer your call and then able to search for a driver immediately – and that is not always possible.

How will I know my booking is successful? The driver will ring you in good time some days before the journey. They will check your address and appointment details and give you a pick-up time. Our drivers are very experienced in estimating times needed – especially given traffic on the A40 at different times of day.
