Commemorating the D-Day landings in Normandy 1944

REMEMBERING all those who made the ultimate sacrifice during the D-Day landings and the subsequent Battle for Normandy.

In particular REMEMBERING the first man to die, LCPL Fred Greenhalgh, who drowned when thrown out of his glider on landing; and the first man killed by enemy action, LT Den Botheridge who led his platoon over the objective bridge; of the Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire Light Infanty. RIP, WE WILL REMEMBER THEM.

D Company of the 2nd OXON & BUCKS (52nd) plus attached Royal Engineers landed by Horsa gliders flown by pilots of the Glider Pilot Regiment, just after midnight on 6 June and captured PEGASUS Bridge over the Caen Canal and the Orne river bridge.. This was the first operational objective captured on D-DAY.
