FOUR musical groups arrive in Eynsham 7 May 2017 (Freeland Orchestra) Local musicians have new opportunities which have literally landed on their doorstep!

Due to Freeland Methodist Church closing down at Easter this year, Eynsham has now gained four regular music groups conducted by Wendy Marks, a local oboist and woodwind teacher.

Freeland Orchestra, which has been going for almost 10 years, attracts players from several local villages including Eynsham. The orchestra has given many concerts in both St Leonard’s Church and the Village Hall, and will again be bringing music to St Leonard’s Church on Saturday 24th June for their summer concert.

The other three groups are all wind groups which came about in response to demand. After a few years of Freeland Orchestra’s existence it became apparent that there were more wind players wanting to play than there were spaces in the orchestra, so WOW (West Oxfordshire Winds) was born. WOW is for players of Grade 3 standard and above, of any age.

WOW started collecting clarinet players of a very high standard so WOC (West Oxfordshire Clarinets) was formed to provide a more challenging musical experience in the form of an advanced clarinet choir for those clarinettists.

As the general standard of WOW increased it became obvious that a junior version of WOW was needed and WOL (West Oxfordshire Learners) appeared! WOL is only a year old but is growing rapidly. Like WOW, it is open to players of all ages and is great fun!

All four groups will be joining together on 24th June for a summer’s evening of music at St Leonard’s.

New members are welcome at all of these groups – please see the appropriate group under Arts Clubs and Societies in the Directory on this website.
