Eynsham Record 30 15 Jun 2015 (Eynsham Record) Volume 30 (2013) of the Eynsham Record marks a transfer of responsibility.

Volume 30 (2013) of the Eynsham Record, published at the Eynsham History Group AGM in April, marks a transfer of responsibility. Dr Brian Atkins, who had edited the journal from the outset, was handing on the task - find it here.

The front cover shows a kneeler from St Leonard's church, in memory of the Bedford ‘Brothers’ (below), with the motto Super custodiam meam stabo - I will stand upon my watch. The back has a splendid image from the River Thames.

The contents range far and wide, historically and geographically - including:

  • Joan Weedon (1923-2012) - obituary and bibliography;
  • More on the Bedford ‘Brothers’ - whose distinguished service in the early 20th century was introduced last year;
  • Eynsham apple in the news (New Zealand experiments with a Wastie apple variety);
  • Place-names in the Eynsham countryside;
  • A childhood at Swinford Farm;
  • Christ Church, Eynsham Abbey & the Cartulary: “Eynsham was the one religious house in Oxfordshire which survived continuously from the 11th century to the Dissolution”;
  • History of the Wharf and Wharf Stream - from earliest references to the coming of the railway.
  • THEN & NOW - an image of the ‘New’ Inn from OCC Photographic Archive.
