As soon as the new government was elected GreenTEA wrote to Ed Miliband about the ongoing confusion about the right to require net zero standards for new homes and the need to reduce electricity demand. This was sent on to DHCLG and their reply also appears on our Energy page.
The messaging is better but in essence much the same as before, relying on what many see as inadequate building regulations and methods, but stating, rather unhelpfully, that ‘This means that housebuilders have the flexibility they need to innovate and select the most cost-effective solutions in any particular development, including building above the minimum standards of the Building Regulations if they chose to.’!!
There is also mention of ‘encouraging’, not requiring, solar on roofs. This is all of concern with the overwhelming emphasis on house numbers.
