Construction lorries thundering through our streets were a familiar sight in the early 1970s, as long-term residents may recall. But can you - or your family - lay hands on any photos?
Members of the Eynsham Society are keen to add more illustrations to their ‘origin story’, since their evidence to a 1974 planning enquiry almost single-handedly put paid to any bid for western development for almost 50 years. Results from their traffic census on major routes in and out of the village particularly impressed the inspector; and one photo, of people with clipboards counting passing cars and lorries by the entrance to the Playing Field, is especially well remembered but mislaid…
This, or any other photos, from their David & Goliath struggle would be most welcome! Please contact Jolyon Cox on 01865 880 563 or secretary@eynshamsociety.org.uk
