The Night Sky in August!

This is not intended to be comprehensive - it is a quick guide to help you find a few things in the night sky without any equipment - just your eyes.

All of these are very bright and easy to find when walking around the village. As the days get longer the nights get shorter you have to stay out later or get up earlier.

The planets - Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn can all be seen this month but not convenient times with the early sunrise and late sunset. You will be able to see the moons of Jupiter with a pair of binoculars or a small telescope.

Look out for the last Super Moon of the year - on the 12th - meaning-  Super, it is closest to us and up to 14% bigger - also there is the Perseid meteor shower 80 an hour or so, but you can only see the bright ones due to the full Moon.

I have made the following charts to help you find: -

The phases of the Moon
Perseid Meteor shower
Brightest Space Station pass
The visible planets
