Hello, I’d like to introduce myself as the incoming President of the Eynsham Rotary Club for this year. I am very much hoping to raise the profile of the Club within the village and surrounding villages, as well as continue the work of raising funds for local and international charities.
I felt and saw an outpouring of community spirit during the pandemic and feel sure that there are people in our community who are looking for an opportunity to continue or start afresh with a role helping their own community to thrive.
We are a friendly, forward-looking group of individuals who see the Rotary motto of “Service before Self” as a simple way of helping our neighbours and others around the world who are in need.
We are not in the least bit stuffy – having been set up 10 years ago in a fashion to suit the lives of busy working people and break the traditional, and perhaps somewhat old fashioned, Rotary mould. Indeed, “Rotary GB&I” has actually started to follow in our footsteps, with a lot of the formality of meetings and proceedings being more relaxed.
We meet at The Swan, twice a month on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays – one business meeting and one meeting with a meal and an invited speaker, often from a local charity to tell us about their work. We’re very flexible, so although we do encourage people to attend these meetings, you can dip in and out as life demands. When we are fundraising you can select the events and areas in which you are willing or able to be involved, whether that be helping with the publicity or stacking chairs.
