Since Eynsham’s Co Wheels car went on trial in April 2023, it has attracted 14 regular users, been hired 295 times, and driven just over 13,400 electric miles. Whilst all moving in a very positive direction, this doesn’t mean the EV car club is quite on a fully sustainable basis, and as a temporary measure the car has been swapped for a petrol hybrid. HOWEVER, thanks to a funding boost from Cllr Dan Levy, Co Wheels are set to swap this back to a fully battery EV early in the new year, where it will stay for the next 12 months. Massive thanks for Cllr Levy for this allocation of much-needed funding.
Either way, the best way to ensure that your local EV car club stays in place for the long term (and remains EV in the future!) is to get more drivers using it. So do what you can to raise awareness and encourage people to give it a try!
DATELINE 13/04/2023: Co Wheels launches an EV car club pilot in Back Lane car park: book by the day / hour. ‘The EV at the public chargers in Back Lane car park is the latest, award-winning MG4 family hatchback, with room for up to 5 people and a range of more than 200 miles,’ says Co Wheels.
This is one of 14 new car club EVs in a one-year pilot across the county, offering the chance to try an EV with no long-term commitment.
DATELINE 13/04/2022: A climate action initiative from West Oxfordshire District Council as the second West Oxfordshire car park is now EV ready.
‘Twelve fast-charge EZ-Charge electric vehicle charging points are now live at Back Lane car park in Eynsham as part of Park and Charge Oxfordshire's project to roll out more charging options across the county - helping more people make the switch to ultra-low and zero emission vehicles.
‘Providing more choice for EV drivers to charge up during the day, the new bays can also be used by residents without off-street parking to charge overnight.’
