Patricia Atkins 1934-2022 22 Mar 2022 (Eynsham Country Market) Market says goodbye to former Chairman

Last week we said goodbye to our friend Pat Atkins who sadly passed away on 16th February.  Pat was a trained nurse who worked as a midwife in Oxford for many years before settling down to live in Eynsham with her husband Brian and children Suzy, Jim and Jenny.  Pat was a founder member of Eynsham Country Market in 1984 and was for many years a prolific producer of jams, marmalades, cheese scones and fruit pies for which she won numerous first prizes at the Eynsham Show.  She was involved with the Eynsham History Society with Brian and was also a long-term member of the Eynsham WI.  Pat was Secretary for the Market for many years but after the death of Win Goodey, she became our Chairman.  Pat kept us all in line at Committee Meetings held at her house in Thornbury Road with her calm, firm but always fair way of dealing with issues.  In recent years, Pat suffered with failing health which meant she could not drive to market and found walking difficult.  However, she continued to be a staunch supporter of the market, even during Covid lockdowns, with her regular orders for shortbread biscuits, cheese scones, and lemon drizzle cakes.  She was a much loved mother and grandma and we send our sincere condolences to her family.  She will be missed by everyone that knew her and we will remember her kindness and friendship.
