Beavers became officially part of The Scout Association and the World Scout Organisation on 1 April 1986. So we're 35 this year...
...but wait...
All that becoming official business followed a few years of what might nowadays be called a 'soft launch'. Beaver Scouts were introduced across the UK in 1982, and there were various unofficial Beavers-like outgrowths of the Scouting Movement in some parts of the UK before then.
The Eynsham Scouts Archive records that "Carol Messenger was the Beaver Leader from 1981 - 1992". So it looks like we were quickly onto this new opportunity to offer Scouting to children 6-8 years old.
So happy 40th Anniversary Eynsham Beavers...unless we're even older than that....
