Helen Peacocke (30 March 1943 - 23 March 2025) passed away peacefully at the age of 81, just short of her 82nd birthday.
Helen was a well-known journalist for the Oxford Times, where she had a regular food column. She had a passion for good food and had the ability to conjure up wonderful gastro delights at the drop of a hat.
Whenever possible she would try to avoid imported ingredients. This was her personal philosophy that was ahead of the times. It was her way of saving the world.
She collaborated with Mollie Harris to compile a book of home wine making recipes. She made many contributions to Eynsham Online, with a long-running series of Seasonal Recipes.
Helen also wrote a series of four ‘Paws’ books, detailing dog walks in the Cotswolds countryside, with contributions from her faithful border collie, Pythius.
Helen was a prolific wordsmith with a passion for good food, border collies and a love of the countryside. She will be sadly missed.
Thanks to her brother, John Richards, for this tribute.
