A happy and compassionate person, remembered with love

Ursula Goulding

Ursula Goulding (22 Mar 2003)

Ursula Goulding (1923–2014) came to live in Eynsham from London in 1967, when her husband Leslie was appointed to the cardiology department at the Radcliffe Infirmary. She had trained as a nurse at University College Hospital in the late 1940s and married Leslie in 1950. Having already been involved in voluntary work, she soon became part of Oxfordshire WRVS. For many years she organised the Meals on Wheels service and was awarded the British Empire Medal for this in 1978.

In Eynsham she joined the WI Market, making interesting and unusual preserves and cakes, and in recent years her flower posies and meringues were eagerly sought after. In fact she was known as ‘the meringue lady’ to many.

Another long term interest was stamp collecting – she spent many hours sorting and packing stamps for sale in aid of Sobell House – and for a long time drove in Eynsham volunteer transport scheme too. A happy and compassionate person, she will be remembered with love by her many friends here.
