‘From the top of The Abbey there were six farms: 1-Hoskins (Abbey Farm), 2-Ashbys, 3-Home Farm (Mr Coates), 4-Wintells (Freemans) Farm and 5-young Billy Bantin (where the Post Office is now). Freemans were across the corner of Newland Street and 6-elder Bantin’s was on the corner of what is now Millmore Crescent, but then all open fields. The cows ran through the streets of Eynsham.’
